Help Re-House Senior Citizens Displaced by Fire at Arthur Capper Senior Housing Complex

Dear Valued Customers;

I am forwarding the following message to you in the event you have properties not yet back to market that may qualify to help or fellow residents.

If you have such a property requiring repainting and or wheelchair ramps to make it fully compliant with the requirements, RodwellBuildingServices will donate time and services to make those modifications in time to help the senior citizens of Arthur Capper.

Thank you for your consideration.

“Dear Housing Providers,

As you may be aware, there was a three-alarm fire at the Arthur Capper Senior building last Wednesday afternoon. Thankfully, there have been no serious injuries reported at this time, however, all residents have been displaced.

The Department of Housing and Community Development is working with the Office of the Tenant Advocate and with DC Housing Finance Agency to help the families find new homes. We are reaching out to you to re-house these seniors. Please let us know as soon as possible (help.capperresidents@dc.gov or 202-442-7200), but no later than close of business on Friday, September 28, 2018, if you have vacant 1 bedroom units, preferably UFAS-compliant/accessible units for immediate occupancy and for occupancy in the next 30 days. If any of your vacant units are subject to Inclusionary Zoning, please also let us know the status of the lottery process.

At this time, we have not yet determined all the needs of the residents at the Arthur Capper Senior building, but the District is working together quickly to assist the families. Thank you for your cooperation as we move to ensure safe and secure housing for our senior residents.

Best regards,

DHCD
